This article is about the planning process that goes behind throwing a truly spooky, scary, unforgetable evening for all of your guests that dare to attend.

Halloween parties can be fun, but they do require some advanced planning. The first thing that you should decide, after the guest list, is how much money you are willing and able to spend and how much time and effort you are willing and able to put into your party. You should send out your invitations one to two weeks before the party and should clearly state the time, place, themes, and whether or not costumes are required or optional. Of course, some people will never wear a costume, no matter what you say, but it is worth a try if that is what you want for your party.

You might want to pick a costume theme. Maybe everyone should come dressed as zombies, or any character from their favorite teenage slasher flick or B horror movie. You could even have a Celtic theme if you want. And in terms of everyone wearing a costume, you could always mention in your invitation that anyone who shows up without a costume will be forced to walk around wearing only their dunce cap and their underwear.

When it comes to decorating, you can either keep things simple with spooky black lights, hanging Halloween decorations and a few fake spider webs, or you can go all out and create your own haunted house. You can also replace all of your normal light bulbs with colored ones, and cover all tables with either black shower curtains or Halloween light tablecloths and put some fake spiders, party confetti, and plastic cockroaches in the center. Fake rats are always fun, too, especially when you put them in the refrigerator in your medicine cabinets, which by the way, all of your party guests will look in at some point, people just cant help being nosy.

Create a play list of music that incorporates both the theme of your party and a mix of regular music to appeal to the tastes of all of your guests. If your party has a theme, you should try to find music that complements your theme. Make sure to have a costume contest with lots of fun prizes too, with winners for both genders, and do not forget the nicest underwear awards for anyone who is stubborn enough to show up without a costume, despite your warnings. Follow these tips, and you will be on your way to the best Halloween party ever. Remember, it is not all about how much money you spend but how much effort and creativity you put into it that makes a party a success.
